ONUKA in Europe! Spring 2024

ONUKA is a Ukrainian electro-folk band — a symbiosis of contemporary pop music, traditional Ukrainian folk, and electronic sound.

It is the story of two talents coming together and walking the path of life and creativity side by side. Yevhen Filatov (The Maneken), one of Ukraine’s most successful sound producers, is responsible for the project’s modern sound, while Nata Zhyzhchenko, former vocalist of the bands Tomato Jaws and Kooqla, is the face and soul of ONUKA.

Together, they have succeeded in reviving the richness of Ukrainian heritage within the framework of modern electronic music and the live sound of traditional Ukrainian folk instruments — the sopilka (flute), bandura, jaw harp, trembita, and cimbalom.

ONUKA is, above all, a deeply personal and touching family story of Nata Zhyzhchenko herself — the granddaughter and heir of the renowned Ukrainian folk instrument maker Oleksandr Shlionchyk. Her grandfather gave young Nata a sopilka he had crafted with his own hands — an instrument that became her guide in life and later defined the essence and sound of her music.
